Our Mission

Empathy in Action seeks to tackle community challenges, guided primarily by what Louisville residents identify as priorities and create innovative and inclusive solutions. Empathy in Action’s three-story building has been designed and developed for three distinct and unique purposes:  Our first floor is community connection space. EIA will provide regular sit-down dinners for adult community members with childcare included. Regardless of financial means, EIA wants to encourage community conversation with a diverse set of people from all walks of life over a healthy meal – complete with first-rate service. In addition to regular dinners, EIA will plan and implement workshops designed to assist members of our community on a fixed income with challenges such as preparing healthy meals on a budget, and learning to overcome other barriers to health, wellness, and food security. Our second floor space is dedicated co-working space for grassroots non-profit organizations who do not have the resources to operate independently. There, organizations will share physical space including offices, a conference room, resources and supplies provided by the EIA team.  During adult programming, on our third floor Young Adult Compassion Center, children will be provided an abundance of books, games, crafts, and other entertainment designed to foster connection and compassion – all while under the supervision of our trusted and trained volunteer team at Empathy in Action. Children will also fuel our youth programming segment, which seeks to provide service learning projects on the weekends and during the summer for young people to give back to the community in small groups.

We recognize there has been a steady and unfortunate decline of genuine human connection in modern society, enabled in part by advances in technology and the prevalence of social media. This, coupled with a general lack of opportunities for constructive, in-person dialogue with people outside our natural circle is leading to distrust and misunderstanding of and isolation from the global community and our very own neighbors.

It is our hope that Empathy in Action will become a place where people from all backgrounds will come together and connect: over food, conversation, a sincere desire to work together to solve the problems of our community, and, most importantly, what makes us uniquely human.

Our compassion.
